Transitional design style is a marriage of traditional and contemporary furniture, finishes, materials and fabrics equating to a classic, timeless design. You can still have a tufted armchair but it will sport a more modern fabric and chair foot style. Stained wood nightstands may be a grey stain (instead of brown) with a modern table lamp and brushed brass handles.
In transitional design, there are nods to both modern elements and traditional elements. It’s proof that you can, actually, have the best of both worlds.
